SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA VETERINARY HOSPITAL
WELLNESS PLANS

Our wellness plans incorporate modern preventative health care measures needed by your pet to reduce the possibility of serious common diseases as well as reduce the chances of family members acquiring contagious or “zoonotic” diseases. Wellness plans are individualized to address concerns for all stages of your pet’s life. While these plans are very complete, they may not address specialized needs for prevention or other individual medical concerns. If specific exposure to certain infectious or dangerous agents is present that are not covered in the general plan, then they will be discussed during your consultation visit and may involve additional tests and or treatments.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Southern California Veterinary Hospital team is devoted to providing the highest quality and comprehensive medical care. We believe that great medicine starts with the best preventative medicine. Our goals for prevention are to provide maximum protection from serious disease causing viruses, bacteria, and parasites and also to screen for and detect diseases early before they become serious.

WELLNESS EXAMS

The assessment of your pet’s health status begins with a comprehensive physical examination. The examination includes direct consultation with the veterinarian and a full physical evaluation of your pet. The evaluation allows us to determine the basic health status of your pet, guides us in our preventative health care recommendations, and allows early detection of disease conditions. In some cases, further diagnostic testing may be needed to confirm suspected conditions.

VACCINATIONS

Vaccines have recently been found to provide longer immunity than previously thought. Vaccine recommendations have thus changed dramatically over the last few years. With this in mind, we have designed our core vaccine protocols to provide the best protection with the least amount of risk. Most risks can be decreased by not over vaccinating. In order to generate life-long protection for your pet from the diseases we fear most, it is important to get a good start with a series of vaccines when young and then to follow up with boosters in one year. These initial vaccines and boosters may even provide years of protection on their own. Recent advancements let us test the protection level of specific vaccines called a “titer test”. We recommend testing these levels every year starting at two years of age with this simple blood titer test. Approximately 80% of pets or more develop protective immunity that lasts several years after the initial vaccination and booster series. The other 20% require boosters. If your pet falls in this 20% after titer testing, the needed vaccine boosters will be administered here at no charge under the wellness plans.

WELLNESS BLOOD SCREENS

Wellness blood screens are utilized during different stages of your pet’s life. Blood screens are laboratory tests that help detect abnormalities in the function of internal organs or other body systems. Studies show that over 20% of pets considered “normal” by their owners and not showing any visible signs, have a medical abnormality that was detected on physical examination and/or by laboratory blood screening. Most of these abnormalities are usually easily treated if caught early and may possibly become life threatening or untreatable later. Age appropriate testing is including in each Wellness Plan.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL PARASITES

Frighteningly true, some of the most common and debilitating diseases pets is caused by a number of internal and external parasites. Human medical research has found that the incidence of parasites from pets affecting children and adults is on the rise even here in the United States. Many pets are carriers of these parasites and can infect humans and other animals without showing signs themselves. Some pets, even ones in an indoor environment, may have become infected with internal parasites years before the infection is actually detected or treated. The majority of common internal parasites can be eliminated with frequent de-worming and fecal parasite exams which are included in our wellness plans.

MICROCHIPS

Identifiable microchips are used to identify your pet if lost and returned to a shelter or pet hospital. If your pet has not already received a microchip, a Home Again microchip can be placed here at a discounted rate under our wellness plans.

OUR WELLNESS PLANS

We provide three distinct wellness plans for dogs and cats. These plans are offered with discounts over regular costs to encourage complete wellness care. Since the general plans offer the basic care requirements, we have also added a separate section of our wellness plans that includes discounts on additional services that may be needed on an individual basis. Please see the individual plans for details and prices.
